Hair transplantation - what exactly is it?
A hair transplant is a surgical procedure in which hair is transplanted from one area to another. Healthy hair roots are harvested from untouched areas such as the crown or back of the head and then implanted into the areas affected by hair loss.
The duration of the treatment varies depending on the method used, the number of grafts and the region in which it is carried out and can take between three and nine hours. Hair transplantation in Munich is performed under local anesthesia. After the procedure, you should rest, apply sun protection and not use shampoo for 2-3 days. You will be socially acceptable again immediately after the treatment, but traces of the procedure may still be visible for up to two weeks.
Who is a hair transplant suitable for?
An autologous hair transplant in Munich is particularly suitable for people who suffer from thinning or bald patches. Men with receding hairlines or a thinning back of the head, known as a tonsure, are often affected. In women, hair loss often occurs in the crown of the head. Patients who have lost hair due to illness, chemotherapy, burns or radiation can also benefit from a hair transplant.
Methods of hair transplantation in Munich
In FUE hair transplantation in Munich, individual grafts of up to 5 hairs are harvested and transplanted to achieve natural results without visible scars. The method is particularly suitable for patients with short or medium-length hair, as the donor area often has to be shaved. A detailed consultation takes place before a hair transplant in Munich. If the treatment is considered promising, an appointment is made together with the expert. The transplantation consists of two steps: The surgeon removes grafts with a hollow needle, stores them temporarily in a nutrient solution and then inserts them into the target region using tweezers. Regular check-ups follow the operation, and the result can be assessed after around 12 months.
In contrast, FUT hair transplantation in Munich involves removing a strip of skin from the hairline to obtain grafts, which are then implanted in the target region. This method is less time-consuming and less expensive than FUE but leaves a scar at the back of the head that can be covered by longer hair. For people who do not want extensive shaving, a FUT hair transplant is still a suitable option. During the hair transplant in Munich, a strip of skin is removed instead of individual grafts as in the FUE treatment. The surgeon removes the grafts from the strip and inserts them using tweezers. A comprehensive consultation takes place beforehand.
FUE or FUT? Which method suits me?
In Munich, we offer you both proven techniques: the FUE method (Follicular Unit Extraction) and the FUT method (Follicular Unit Transplantation).
The FUE technique is often recommended for short hair wearers who also want to wear their hair short in summer. It only leaves tiny scars in the extraction area, which are covered by the surrounding hair. In addition to the classic FUE, there is a more advanced variant, the intermittent FUE technique (I-FUE). The special feature here is that the hair follicles are not removed all at once. Instead, the grafts are harvested in blocks and the grafts are reinserted immediately after harvesting. This leads to an increased survival rate of the hair follicles and therefore to better results. This method is particularly suitable for larger procedures in which 2,000 to 4,000 grafts are to be inserted.
Special sapphire blades, known as sapphire FUE, can also be used with the FUE method. The advantage of sapphire blades over conventional steel blades is that they are more precise and cause less damage to the surrounding tissue. This shortens the healing time and reduces the redness of the scalp after the operation. Most patients report that the redness disappears completely after 6 to 8 months, whereas it can last longer with steel blades.
The FUT method, on the other hand, creates a larger scar at the back of the head, but is particularly suitable for people with long hair or patients who do not want a shaved extraction site. In addition, the hair follicles are removed more quickly and are therefore significantly cheaper than the FUE method.
